Cheetah!
At the end of our drive on Tuesday morning we drove 40-mph over volcanic rock and bone-rattling terrain. It felt like we were in an off-road rally — dust flying, everyone gripping their seats, and our driver clearly on a mission. When a guide drives like that, you don’t ask questions… you just hang on and trust the process.
Then we rounded the bend — and understood exactly why we’d been racing.
A big male cheetah was walking calmly alongside the road like he had absolutely nowhere urgent to be. As if the scene needed more drama, Mount Kilimanjaro rose in the background like a perfectly staged backdrop. Between the mountain, the golden landscape, and this magnificent cat pacing beside us, it felt less like real life and more like we’d accidentally wandered into a nature film.
We were so close we could see every detail — lean muscle shifting under spotted fur, eyes locked forward, pure effortless grace. Then, in a moment that perfectly balanced majesty with reality, he stopped at a tree to pee and mark his territory. Even in postcard-worthy scenery, nature keeps things refreshingly honest.
The entire vehicle fell quiet — that shared silence when everyone realizes they’re witnessing something special. The cheetah lingered just long enough for the moment to sink in before continuing on, completely unbothered.
And once again, the wild delivered a scene none of us will ever forget.
